NEWINGTON - Inclement weather might have moved Day 2 of the Children’s Charities Tennis Classic inside to the Newington Tennis Center on Saturday, but it did not take away from the quality of play.

Tom and Joey Conrod of Sandy Hook won their fifth consecutive parent/child doubles division, defeating Eleanor and Ben Doolittle of Kensington in a thrilling match by a score of 7-6, 6-4.

In the boys doubles division, the team of Hussein Akbar and Syed Nagvi from Windsor Locks/West Hartford defeated Sean Davis and Lukas Klin of Newington 6-1, 7-5.

And in the Grand Masters final, Bristol native and current Lynchburg College player Nick Savino beat Saeed Akbar of Windsor Locks by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

The tournament to date has raised just over $5,600 for the pediatrics autism unit at the Hospital for Special Care.

The third and final day of the classic will take place this afternoon at the New Britain High School tennis courts.
