SOUTHINGTON - Debra Herrick Clen is the Southington Library’s Artist of the Month for July.

She was born and raised in New England and grew up in an artistic family of five siblings. She had great respect for and interest in art, but did not get serious about it until she took an early retirement. It was then that she found her true calling.

Herrick Clen experimented with several media, but discovered her voice in abstract painting. She found it the best medium to truly express herself. Each original painting is filled with emotion and has its own story.

Herrick Clen has been a consistent presence on the state art scene since her first showing in 2017. Her work can be seen throughout the state in local businesses, libraries and juried art shows.

Her favorite artists include Brian Rutenberg, Carmen Guedez and Earl Hamilton.

Exhibits in the library’s gallery are on display during the regular hours of the library, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is on the main level near the cafe.
