Johnny Cash, Chicago tribute concerts coming to Hartford's Polish National Home

HARTFORD - The Polish National Home will host a pair or tribute concerts in June.

“The Spirit of Johnny Cash,” starring Harold Ford, will be Saturday, June 15, at 8 p.m., in the historic Chopin Ballroom. Concert-goers can come early for dinner and drinks.

The tribute act reportedly got its name from fans telling Ford he was channeling Johnny Cash’s spirit. Random strangers would come up to Ford and say, “Did anybody ever tell you that you look like Johnny Cash?” After hearing this for a while, Ford started replying “You’re the first one today.”

The Nashville music press has hailed hisshow as a “must see to believe,” as Ford reportedly bears an amazing resemblance to Cash, both vocally, and physically.

On Saturday, June 22, also in the Chopin Ballroom, the PNH presents “Connecticut Transit Authority: The Music of Chicago.”

Connecticut Transit Authority “faithfully recreates the music of one of America’s greatest bands” from their 1969 debut album “Chicago Transit Authority” through 1977’s “Chicago XI.” according to their website, .

The set list contains hits including“Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is,” “Make Me Smile,” “Beginnings,” “Just You ‘n Me,” “Dialogue” and “Old Days.”

Tickets are $45 for a dinner buffet, starting at 5:30 p.m., and the show, or $20 for the show only, starting at 8 p.m. Seating is general admission for both floor and balcony.

The Dinner & Show Package includes a special buffet in the PNH restaurant on the first floor. The menu includes: salad; rye bread and butter; vegetables; pasta marinara; bigos; lasanki; golabki; broiled sliced kielbasa; house-made bread pudding and peach dump cake, and a coffee/tea station.
