BRISTOL - The Board of Directors of the New England Carousel Museum and the Bristol Center for Arts & Culture has announced that this year’s ACE Awards for art, culture and entertainment will be presented to newly retired Arts Administrator Lori Meusel Eschner and Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu.

The awards were created to honor people or organizations for their contribution to art, culture or entertainment in Greater Bristol.

The awards will be presented at an annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at the museum, 95 Riverside Ave.

It will include a social hour, buffet dinner, awards ceremony, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and a musical performance produced by Ken Ferris and Friends.

Eschner said that she is “very honored” to be selected.

“I was teaching in Bristol for 31 years and I spent at least 10 of those as the art department chair,” she said. “Growing up in Bristol, I always was an advocate for the arts; art is my passion. With everything I did, I would always put the kids first. I thought about what I could do to help them excel in art and how I could get them to appreciate art. I would integrate reading, the sciences and history into what I taught and try to relate it to everyday life.”

Eschner said that she appreciated the “strong team” that supported her over the years. She is currently a member of the Memorial Boulevard Committee, advocating for the former school becoming an arts magnet school.

Zoppo-Sassu said that she has “always felt strongly about arts and culture.”

“Arts and culture should be promoted as an economic development and a marketing tool for the community,” said Zoppo-Sassu. “We have so much talent and it is important to showcase what we have here.”

Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a reserved table of 8. Tickets can be purchased at the Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave. in Bristol. The proceeds from this event will benefit the general operations and educational programming of the New England Carousel Museum.
