NEW BRITAIN - Rafal Lewandowski, a well-known pianist who plays classical music in the Polish and French traditions, will be featured later this month in two concerts titled “French Impressions.”
“He is a very established pianist from Poland,” said Adrian Sylveen, artistic director of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, which is organizing the concerts. “I think it’s going to be a beautiful concert. I think it’s a unique program. I hope people recognize it as such.”
“We actually grew up together in the same town, but his career is brilliant,” Sylveen continued. “There is a personal connection as well as a professional connection between us.”
Lewandowski played in Connecticut a few years ago with the Virtuosi, Sylveen noted. He also has performed on concert stages across Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Croatia, Poland, Denmark and Austria.
Lewandowski graduated from the Academy of Music in Gdansk, Poland. Afterward, he attended a master class in the German city of Weimar under the direction of the world-famous pianist Bernard Ringeissen, and then continued to work with Ringeissen for two years in Paris.
The first concert is slated for Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 830 Corbin Ave, New Britain.
The second concert is set for Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave, Hartford.
