NEW BRITAIN – With less than two weeks before Christmas, the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and Central Connecticut State University invite people to celebrate this weekend with the annual Polish Christmas Concert.

“We hold this annual concert to celebrate Christmas with a particularly Polish flavor,” said M.B.B. Biskupski, director of Polish Studies at CCSU.

This year’s Christmas concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. As always, the concert will be held at CCSU’s Welte Auditorium, a choice made because of the large crowd the venue can hold.

Biskupski said that the concert features music predominantly from Polish composers. There will be orchestral and choral music, as well as dance and traditional Polish carols.

“The kids love that. People are often singing along with the carols,” Biskupski said.

This year’s concert will feature the Polanie dance troupe, Chor Moniuszko, and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. The program will feature the music of Karlowicz, Chopin and Mozart along with folk dances and carols.

“It’s a very fun, energetic concert,” Biskupski said, who added that the annual concert has been a tradition for decades. “It’s a delight.”

Welte Auditorium at CCSU is located at 1615 Stanley St. The concert is free, and public parking is available in campus parking garages.
