BRISTOL - The 48th Annual “Mum-A-Thon” Halloween-themed road race is slated for this weekend in an effort to raise proceeds for the Veterans Strong Community Center.

Andrew Barton, the race director, said the this year, the Halloween-themed 8k run and a 5k walk will begin and end at St. Paul Catholic High School. Most of the route is on the sidewalk, and when participants return to the high school, there will be activities that are included in the cost of the road race.

There are also costume contests for both adults and children, and males and females, he said, and trick-or-treat stations will be set up along the route for kids. Barton said, “We want people to dress up and take part in the race. There are also costume contests.”

The race offers sponsorship opportunities. The gold level sponsorship is for donations of $600 or more, and includes a company name and logo prominently displayed on the T-shirts and listed on the race websites, display space and table at the event and two complimentary race entries.

The silver sponsorship level is for donations of $400 plus and comes with a company name and reduced-size logo displayed on the T-shirts and on the race website. The bronze level sponsorship is for donations of $200 plus and includes a name on the T-shirts. Friends and supporters who wish to donate $100 plus will also receive recognition.

“The weather is supposed to be perfect,” Barton said. “So far, registration is similar to last year’s. We will have eight trick-or-treat station set up along the round and then we will be having a little gathering at the finish line after the race.”

The race, rain or shine, is slated for Oct. 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul Catholic High School, at 1001 Stafford Ave. Registration for the 8k race is $25 on race day and $22 with pre-registration. The 5k walk is $15 on race day and $12 before. Children under 4 are free. Online registration can be performed at signmeup.com/site/online-event-registration/121075.

“We are also excited to have our pasta dinner” on Oct. 21, Barton said, also to raise funds for the Veterans Strong Community Center. All proceeds from both events go to the Veterans Strong Community Center.

The Mum-A-Thon pasta dinner will be held at 5 p.m. at the American Legion Seicheprey Post, at 22 Hooker Court. The cost is $10, and $5 for anyone under 13. Children under 4 are free.
