BRISTOL - The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a contest to see who can create the best movie trailer that highlights Bristol in a fun and exciting way.

This is the first time the Create a Trailer Contest has been organized, explained Jessie Petroka, recreation coordinator at the parks department.

The contest was organized through “a department effort,” Petroka said, because they were “looking for a creative way to engage the public.”

The contest is open to all current Bristol residents and submission must be PG and appropriate to be shown at a community event.

The trailers should be between one and two minutes long, and highlight the city in a fun and exciting way. They must be original work created by the contestant.

After the trailers are submitted, Petroka explained that a committee will choose the three best based on originality, unique cinematography, most likely to be a blockbuster, creative costumes and exciting dialogue. Winners will be notified by the email used to submit the trailer.

First place wins a family four-pack of movie passes and popcorn to AMC Plainville 20 Movie Theater. Second place wins a $50 program gift card to parks and recreation and third place wins a Batman T-Shirt.

The top three trailers will be shown at Muzzy Field for “Family Night” on Sept. 8, where “The LEGO Batman Movie” will also be featured. The rain date for “Family Night” is Sept. 9, and the event is sponsored by First Bristol Credit Union.

Trailer must be submitted ParksandRecreation@bristol.ct.gov by Sept. 1, with a subject line of “Create a Trailer Contest.” For more information call 860-584-6160.

The department may hold the contest again, Petroka said, “depending on the response,” but they “have heard a lot of positive feedback so far.”
