BRISTOL - The 15th annual Bristol Strawberry Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gloria Dei church. All the proceeds from the event will go to the Caring for Kids charity fund, which helps families with ill children.
The fund began in 1993 when a child in the congregation at Gloria Dei needed a wheelchair and the church put together the Wheels for Keira fundraiser. Within the next few years they helped two more children and decided to consolidate all the small fundraisers into one organization which could help many families from all over the city.
In the last 15 years Caring for Kids has helped 14 families.
“This fund is something we are very passionate about - each family’s needs are different, and this fund allows us to help more than just children from the church,” stated Tracy Carlson, one of the organizers.
This year, Gloria Dei has brought in vendors such as LuLaRoe, Avon, Tupperware and Swarovski Crystals to the festival - booths are still available for local vendors as well. The Bristol Exchange Club will also be there collecting diapers, baby wipes, baby food and clothing for the Bristol Parent and Child Centers Caring Closet who support low-income families.
The Caring for Kids fund is aiming to raise $2,000 by selling fresh strawberry shortcakes and raffle calendars for July. The fund is currently accepting another application for a child in need, so donations are very welcome.
If you would like to apply, the application can be found at the church’s website, www.gdchurch.org , or you can call the church at 860-582-0629.
