PLAINVILLE - Famous Polish musicians are set to perform Christmas songs and popular music at Plainville High School Jan. 21, in a concert titled “Gwiazdo Swiec, Koledo Lec.”

The musicians, who include singers Olga Bonczyk, Alicja Majewska, Zbigniew Wodecki and pianist Wlodzimierz Korcz, will perform at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the school at 47 Robert Holcomb Way.

Andy Gromadowski, owner of Polski Express Mass Media, one of four area businesses selling tickets to the show, said the performance was booked a year in advance with the aid of Zygmund Rygiel, a promoter from Chicago. It will be the first time that the musicians have performed at the school, Gromadowski said, and a rare opportunity to hear traditional, Polish-language music performed by famous artists.

“Their music is a beautiful, authentic Polish sound and they are very popular,” said Gromadowski. “This is part of a big tour. They have played three concerts in Chicago as well as shows in New York and New Jersey. It is a two-part concert, which includes both Christmas songs and zlote przebole - golden hits, much of which is love music.”

Gromadowski said Plainville High School was chosen as a venue because of the school’s new auditorium and sound system and for its proximity to Hartford and New Britain, both of which have large Polish communities.

Gromadowski said that the concert will be a treat for all ages. For grandparents, this will be true in more ways than one. Candy will be given out to grandmothers and grandfathers who attend.

“In Poland, Grandmother’s Day is Jan. 21 and Grandfather’s Day is Jan. 22,” Gromadowski explained.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased from Polski Express Mass Media at 274 Broad St., Everest at 213 Broad St. and Max-Mart at 104 Broad St. in New Britain as well as Europol at 354 Main St., Ansonia. They can also be purchased by visiting mojbilet.com.
